Professional Experience 

Prof. Roman specializes in failure analyses of materials and systems and has more than 40 years experience in this area. He has conducted hundreds of failure analysis investigations for both industrial and legal clients, and helps companies with general materials and/or metallurgical issues.

1967-1970: B.Sc. (Physics and Mathematics), Hebrew University of Jerusalem

1970-1972: M.Sc. (Materials Science) with Distinction, Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Graduate

School of Applied Science and Technology. (Thesis: "Determination of Grain Size in

Uranium-Chromium Alloys used for Nuclear Fuel Elements by Ultrasonic Attenuation").

1972-1977: Ph.D. (Metallurgy), University of California - Los Angeles, School of Engineering and

Applied Science. (Dissertation: "Fracture and Fatigue and the Cyclically Affected Fracture

Toughness of 1Cr-Mo-V Bainitic Turbine Steels").

Professional Experience

1970-1972: Non-Destructive Test Engineer, "Ultrasonics" and "Morex 71," Tel-Aviv, Israel.   Experience in radiography, Ultrasonics, die penetrants, magnetic particles, eddy- current.

1972-1977: Senior Failure Analyst, “Failure Analysis Associates”, Los Angeles, California, Experience in Failure Analysis of Metallurgical and Mechanical Systems, Fatigue Analysis and Testing, Fracture Analysis and Testing, Fractography and Non-Destructive Inspection. 

1977-2009: Faculty member (today Professor Emeritus), Materials Science and Applied Physics Division, Faculty of Science, The Hebrew University, Jerusalem.  Served as division head for several years. 

1990-1992: Senior Visiting Scientist, Materials Directorate, Wright Laboratory, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio, USA.

1977-to Date: Consultancy services to lawyers, insurance companies, various industries in the areas of: failure analysis, non-destructive testing mechanical properties testing and evaluation, alloy development. Worked for numerous private and public organizations in Israel and the U.S.A. for the last 30 years.

1991-to date: STS Founding partner and company's quality control manager.
